Welcome to the world of Monster…..

Monster is the story of a young boy called Eric who is the only human being living in a world full of monsters. In this world populated with a magical selection of creatures and beasts, Eric looks so different from everybody else that he is called the Monster.

Through the first book we discover what it was like for Eric growing up being very different from his peers, but with the love of his family there is nothing he cannot get through.

Monster takes inspiration from Dennis the Menace, Horrid Henry and Fungus The Bogeyman and is aimed at children aged 7 years and above.

With further adventures of Monster already in production you can rest assured that Eric will see his fair share of mischief , you will be introduced to some of his wonderful friends and family and you can rest assured that trouble will always be around the corner.

Welcome to the world of Monster.

Where it all began….

Monster was conceived back in 2013 and was inspired by both authors living with family members on the autistic spectrum or having ADHD. Having experienced first-hand how these conditions had impacted their family members, a story was born about fitting in whilst not being classed as ‘normal’, but with the love of good family and friend’s, there is no battle to hard to fight.

Now in 2022 we are ready to release the first story of ‘Monster’, but not forgetting where the true roots of the story came from, we felt it was important to give back.

Initially we were looking for an autistic children’s charity to partner with until we were reminded of a quote by the late, great Mrs Elizabeth Charlesworth. She said “Children just do not grow out of autism” and hence we decided that we would donate 10% of every sale of  ‘Monster’ to the National Autistic Society, who supply a plethora of support to all that are affected by autism.

Once upon a time….

Monster tells the story of a young boy called Eric who is a one of a kind, human being, born into a world of Monsters. To those around him, including his family at times, his physical appearance repulses and scares them. Never has a character that frequents this world, seen such a hideous creature as a human boy.

The first book tells the story of Eric’s birth and the difficulties both he and has parents faced whilst trying to fit into the world around them.

Interactive, educational fun….

Jamie has been going into school assembly’s with a PowerPoint and video presentation and encourages an audience interactive environment whilst talking about how he started in the film and television industry before becoming a toy designer and then an author.

He talks about the inspiration for the books and touches on autism, ADHD and inclusion before explaining the process of creating a book and characters that populate the illustrated story.

Both Jamie And John then go back to the schools, usually a week or so later to do a book signing.

Feedback has been incredible from all schools we have attended so far. Thet have really embraced the book and the messages that the book conveys, especially as it sits in a unpopulated area of the curriculum regarding inclusion and diversity.

All have discussed making the book a part of the learning curriculum and working up a schedule of work that weaves hand in hand with the book itself.

I worked with Jamie for a few months leading up to our World Book Day at Putnoe Primary School where Jamie and John’s book ‘Monster’ was our focused book for Key Stage 2.

Jamie was fantastic in holding an assembly for our students where he explained the book, the ideas and themes behind it, the characters and a background into how he got into making and publishing the book.
The communication Jamie provided and his commitment to provide the best day for the children was faultless (John also travelled for the day which we were very grateful for), the children were so excited and the ‘Monster’ book has been the talk of the school ever since.

On the day, Jamie and John helped us by picking winners for ‘Monster Masks’ which were designed by the children and very kindly provided the winners with a fantastic certificate, which they were absolutely thrilled about!
We had a fantastic turnout for the book signing where almost all the books had been sold and Jamie very kindly returned to school for those who were at after school clubs and could not attend the signing.

In all, we were incredibly impressed with Jamie and John’s dedication and enthusiasm in being part of our school events, we would highly recommend them to other schools and are really looking forward to working with them on future projects, school events and future books they have planned.

Huge thanks again Jamie and John!

Dear Jamie,

Monster Author Visit

Thank you for the assembly you delivered to year 3 – 6 last Thursday. The children were really excited to hear all about Eric’s forthcoming adventures, as was proven by the overwhelming demand for your books at your book signing after school on Friday. We were also pleased and delighted to see so many children from Key Stage 1 also coming along to meet you to find out about your book.

We look forward to hearing more about Eric, his family and friends in the sequel to Monster as well as in any subsequent stories and hope to meet with you again soon.
